Laser interferometric
measurements of tiny distance variations are key tasks both in the planned
space gravitational wave detector (e)LISA and its technology demonstrator
LISA Pathfinder as well as in the Laser Ranging Interferometer aboard Earth’s
gravity field observer GRACE Follow-On. Each of these missions requires low
noise laser interferometers, the optimal design of which is a challenging
task. I will present optical simulations performed at the Max Planck
Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) in Hanover,
Germany. To overcome the limitations of existing and commercial
software, we have written and used for these simulations a dedicated software
package called IfoCAD which will be presented as well.
