Optical
frequency combs, especially those based on ultrafast optical pulses are
essential tools for optical frequency standards, atto-sciences, precision
spectroscopy and so on. The development of optical frequency combs is also
promoting the understanding of optical coherence, time and frequency control,
nonlinear interaction, etc. In this presentation, he will talk about some
fundamentals of frequency combs, those with GHz comb intervals and tunable
combs based on nonlinearity.

T. Reid is a Professor of Physics at Heriot-Watt University. He received a
M.A. from the University of Cambridge in 1991 and a Ph.D. from the University
of St Andrews in 1994. His research covers diverse aspects of ultrafast
lasers and optical parametric oscillators, together with their applications
infrequency combs, gas-sensing, waveguide inscription and nonlinear
microscopy.
