Derive the second law of thermodynamics

with the Schrödinger equation

摘要

The second law of thermodynamics is about the irreversibility of macroscopic processes and appears to contradict with the microscopic equation of motion, which has time-reversal symmetry. Von Neumann made an attempt to derive the second law with the Schrödinger equation;but his results were not satisfying in many respects. In this talk, I'll review this issue and describe our new approach and efforts. Our conclusion is that we can indeed derive derive the second law with the Schrödinger equation. These efforts have not only provided a new understanding on the foundation of quantum statistical mechanics but also have led to a prediction of a quantum equilibrium state with multiple temperatures. I'll also briefly describe this new state.

简介

简介:1992年毕业于北京师范大学物理系; 2001年于美国德克萨斯大学奥斯汀分校(University of Texas at Austin)物理系获博士学位。

论文及其它成果: 迄今共发表了40多篇论文,其中包括14PRL. 2004年入选中科院百人计划,终期评估优秀。2008年获国家自然科学基金委杰出青年基金。2007年获香港大学首个崔琦奖(Dan Tsui Fellowship)

主要研究方向:超冷原子气,几何相位,非线性动力学,量子混沌等

过去的主要工作及获得的成果:(1)提出一种新的量子隧穿现象,非线性朗道-基纳(Landau-Zener)隧穿;(2)发现玻色-爱因斯坦凝聚物在光晶格中的动力学不稳定性;3)非线性量子绝热性:建立非线性量子绝热定理和提出适用于非线性量子态的绝热几何相位;(4)预言红外辐射下氢在硅表面的共振脱附;(5)提出隧穿的非线性相干破坏(nonlinear coherent destruction of tunneling)。其中(1245)中做的理论预言现已被实验证实。
